Frequently Asked Questions
Everything customers ask us most often, answered plainly
If your question is not answered below, please do telephone or email us. We would far rather explain something properly than have you wondering.
Quotes and booking
How do I get a quote?
There are three ways. You can use the instant quote tool on this website, you can email us photographs of the job, or we can come out and meet you at the property. Whichever suits you.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. All our quotes are free, including a visit to the property if that is what the job calls for.
Can I get a price straight away?
Yes, for most homes. Our instant quote tool covers standard construction properties with PVC windows, and also gutter clearance, roof cleaning, pressure washing and solar panel cleaning. Period, listed and otherwise bespoke properties we prefer to quote individually, because no two are alike.
How is my quote sent?
By email. Do please check your junk folder, as quotes have a habit of landing there.
Am I tied into a contract?
Regular window cleaning is normally an initial clean followed by three regular cleans. There is a good reason for it. The first visit is always the hardest, and it takes a couple of cycles before a property settles into looking its best. After that, you are free to carry on for as long as you are happy.
How do I pay?
By Direct Debit, debit card or credit card, always after the clean is complete rather than before. Once you have confirmed your first clean we will email you the details for setting payment up.
Your regular clean
How often should my windows be cleaned?
We work on cleaning cycles of every six or twelve weeks. Six weekly keeps glass consistently clear all year and is what most of our customers choose. We can also arrange a bespoke schedule if neither suits.
What is included in a window clean?
Windows, frames, doors and sills, every single visit. Not just the glass.
Do you still clean when it is raining?
Yes we do. It is the question we are asked most, and the answer surprises people. We clean with purified water, and rain is simply more water. It does not mark the glass and it does not spoil the finish. Cleaning in the rain is also how we keep to your schedule rather than putting you off for a fortnight because of the British weather.
What is your twenty four hour guarantee?
We guarantee your windows will dry clean and clear within twenty four hours of the work being completed, whatever the weather does in the meantime. If they have not, tell us and we will come back and put it right.
Do I need to be at home?
Not for window cleaning, provided we can reach the windows. We work from the ground using poles and need no access indoors. If your property is gated or access is awkward, tell us beforehand and we will agree arrangements with you.
How much notice do you need to rearrange or cancel a clean?
Forty eight hours for window cleaning and gutter clearance. For roof cleaning, pressure washing and larger jobs we ask for five days, because those visits take planning and specialist equipment.
Do you need to use my water or electricity?
Not for window cleaning. We carry our own purified water. For pressure washing, roof cleaning, and cleaning of exterior walls, fascias, soffits and gutters we may need access to an outside water point. We will always mention it when we quote.
Our team, insurance and accreditations
How will I know who is at my door?
Our team arrive in a branded van, in branded uniform, carrying photo identification. We also tell you who is coming before they arrive, so you are never wondering who is in the garden.
Do you use subcontractors?
Never. Every member of our team is directly employed by Cannins, trained by us and answerable to us. It is the only way we can stand behind the quality of the work.
Are you insured?
Fully. We hold five million pounds of public liability insurance with AXA, and we are glad to provide our documents on request.
What accreditations do you hold?
We are IPAF accredited for powered access, SafeContractor approved, and members of the Federation of Window Cleaners and the Exterior Cleaning Association. Our team is COSHH compliant and we continue to attend training in cleaning using water under pressure.
My house is very tall. Can you still reach?
Almost certainly. A pole reaches around three storeys. Beyond that we use our own vehicle mounted access platform, which reaches twenty metres and is operated by a qualified IPAF operator. Owning it rather than hiring it in means height is rarely an obstacle.
Still not sure?
Telephone 01386 718165, message us on WhatsApp on 07446 908813, or email info@cannins.co.uk. A real person in our Evesham office will answer.
Our services
What services do you offer?
Window cleaning, gutter clearance and cleaning, roof cleaning and moss removal, pressure washing of paths, patios and driveways, soft washing and steam cleaning of delicate surfaces, conservatory cleaning, fascia and soffit cleaning and solar panel cleaning. We also hire out our access platform through Cannins Mobile Lift Hire.
Do you clean commercial premises?
Yes, and to exactly the standard you would expect in your own home. We clean shops, offices, estate and letting agents, residential apartment blocks, care homes, doctors’ surgeries and other medical practices. We understand that some premises need cleaning at particular times, especially where patients or residents are concerned, and we will arrange visits around you.
Do you clean listed and period properties?
Regularly. A great deal of our work is on listed Cotswold stone and Georgian property. Our team is experienced with sash and leaded windows and takes particular care with older glass, glazing bars and soft stone.
Will the chemicals damage my plants?
No. Our team is COSHH compliant and the products we use are made specifically for exterior cleaning. Used correctly, as we do, they will not harm your planting.
Is it safe for children and pets?
We ask that children and pets are kept indoors or away from the area while we are working. Once we have finished, the area is perfectly safe to use again.
Will pressure washing make a mess?
While we are working, yes, and that is rather the point. It is a large part of why people would sooner we did it than do it themselves. We leave your property as clean and tidy as we found it, and usually a good deal cleaner.
Why not just hire a pressure washer myself?
You certainly can, but the surface, the product, the pressure and the machine all have to suit one another, and getting it wrong can mark a patio permanently. Block paving, natural stone, render and concrete each want quite different handling.
How often should a driveway or patio be cleaned?
It varies with the surface, the aspect and how shaded it is, but as a rule every one to two years. Shaded, north facing areas green over faster and often want doing annually.
